Happy World Bee Day!
Bees and other pollinators are essential to food security, biodiversity, and natural beauty (no bees = no flowers). But they are facing many challenges to their survival.
Since 2018, the United Nations has observed May 20 as International Bee Day, hoping to raise awareness for the crisis of bee population collapse world wide. Approximately one-third of the food humans consume depends on pollination, with bees being responsible for pollinating about 75% of the world's leading crops. But we need bees for more than agriculture.
From apples to almonds, and cucumbers to cocoa, bees are essential to the production of foods that nourish and delight us. But bees also play a key role in maintaining biodiversity and preserving ecosystems by pollinating wild plants. They support the growth of forests, meadows, and other natural habitats, providing homes and sustenance for countless other species.
Right now, bee populations across the globe are facing unprecedented threats, including habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and diseases. The loss of bee populations jeopardizes food security and the stability of entire ecosystems.

YOUR work, the work of our WiWiC Hive, is a powerful part of the solution! The great interest you have in planting natives, reducing pesticides, protecting wild spaces, implementing conservation on properties and farms big and small is a huge opportunity to reverse this crisis. These practices are how we support bees, pollinators, people and planet!
Celebrate World Bee Day by supporting the determined world-changing Queen Bees of the WiWiC Hive through our Spring Fund Drive at WiWiC.org/donate.
Did you know that in addition to mobilizing nearly 5,000 motivated women land stewards in Wisconsin, WiWiC has also launched sister networks in Minnesota and Illinois? Give today to facilitate more field days, webinars, and catalyzing opportunities for women who are ready, willing, and supporting each other to BEE the CHANGE.
